The event that started it all: Arduino GSM Playground

The Arduino GSM Playground comes to Telefonica Digital on the evening of April 29th. We will have talks explaining what the board can do, demos of existing projects and the chance to get hands on with the shield.

Up until this point I’d never even seen a ‘real’ Arduino. It was just one of many MicroControllers enabling the Internet of Things.

It started with a talk by @torgo (Daniel Appelquist) with the possibilities of the GSM Shield, and he demoed Thermo data transmitting to Xively (then COSM).IMG_3808

Within the next 30 minutes I had a box-fresh Arduino Uno, a copy of the Ardunio Projects book and a GSM Shield.

Luckily the Java is similar enough to Actionscript to jump right in, and very soon I had a Twitter / SMS mashup going on. In fact I ended up spamming myself.

…and awesome Burritos. I had two.
